Sunlight and Flies
A love letter to place
In September I left New York and got rid of most of my things and headed out on a journey across time and space which I am still in the middle of and possibly will be for life. I am so inspired by the idea of place right now - I love the way that every place is wonderful and terrible in a completely unique set of ways. Choosing to live in a place means making some calculation about time, money, weather, convenience, opportunity, privacy and many other factors that ultimately are a reflection of what we value. And so places often draw together seemingly different types of people who are actually looking for most of the same things. Part of my fall has been spent living in a converted shipping container in the desert across from a donkey farm. I made the following poem by feeding film photos I took through a typewriter and typing on top of them. It is a love letter to this strange place and the wonderful people who have shown me how to be wild and kind.

Are your flys golden and semi tame? Except one.. it gets too drunk on the beer and food I share.. then he flies funny. That ones my favorite. Wild and something I never expected to care about. You'd like the dogs that bark here. Almost the right level of woof.
love how you told this story with the art 🙌
